US Illegal Declaration on Occupied Syrian Golan Uncovers Scheme to Deepen Occupation, Fragment the Region

NEW YORK, (ST)-The recent US Declaration on occupied Syrian Golan which recognized “Israel’s sovereignty” over this part of the Syrian land has uncovered the criminal scheme to deepen occupation, spread chaos and destruction and fragment the region, Acting Charge de’ Affairs of Syrian Arab Republic’s permanent Delegation to the United Nations Munzir Munzir has affirmed.

He made the remarks on Monday during a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

Munzer also stressed that the American illegal move has exposed the US administration’s grave violation of its own commitments as permanent member of the Security Council by becoming an enemy to all peoples of the world that have belief in international legitimacy and that reject hegemony and colonialism policies.

“Occupied Golan is part and parcel of Syria and Syria will liberate it from the Israeli occupation by all means guaranteed by the international law, Munzer reiterated, renewing Syria’s strong condemnation of the illegal and immoral declaration of the US President Donald Trump on Golan which constitutes a flagrant violation of the international law, the UN Charter and related Security Council resolutions that recognize the Syrian Golan as an occupied land.

The Syrian diplomat pointed out that the entire international community has rejected the US declaration and stressed adherence to the Security Council Resolution No. 497 and other UN resolutions that affirm Syria’s sovereignty over occupied Golan.

He made it clear that the international reactions have led to isolation of the United States even from its closest allies.

Munzer also said that the successive US administrations’ support for Israel and their bids to prevent the Security Council from assuming its responsibilities towards preserving international security and peace, have encouraged the Israeli occupation to go further in its aggressive practices and violations of international legitimacy by refusing to withdraw from occupied Syrian Golan to the June 4th 1967 line in accordance with international laws and by repeatedly launching aggressions against the Syrian territories.

Munzer went on to say that the Israeli occupation authorities keep committing war crimes and crimes against humanity and practicing terrorism against citizens of Golan through confiscating Golan people’s lands, carrying out arbitrary arrests, adopting racial policies, expanding settlements, stealing resources, trying to falsify the history of occupied Syrian Golan, looting Golan antiquities, planting landmines and depriving the steadfast Syrians from their rights.
