The US Treasury Dept Friday blacklisted three leaders of Iraqi Shiite militias associated with Iran for their role in the deadly crackdown of anti-government protesters in southern Iraq and Baghdad. Targeted for sanctions are: the brothers Qais al-Khazali and Laith al-Khazali, chiefs of the Asaib Ahl al-Haq, and Hussein Falih al-Lami, security chief of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU), an umbrella group of paramilitary factions dominated by Iran-backed groups, including Asaib.
