ERBIL – The US is reportedly working on a new plan for the East Euphrates in Syria, working on establishing a new region to unify the Kurds, a source familiar with the developments has revealed.
The source told BasNews that the US had meetings with the Syrian Kurds, during which they “stressed on the urgency of agreeing on a unified project.”
The US’ plan is to unify all components in East Euphrates of Syria in a “unified political and military framework,” the source added, pointing out that Washington, by doing this, can say that it would protect the Kurds in the country.
It will also begin economic investments to secure the financial resources of its project in the region, and “these resources will be gas and oil and Saudi Aramco will invest in East Euphrates,” the source further explained.
“A group of Saudi soldiers arrived last Friday at the al-Omar oil field to protect the Saudi and Egyptian experts who arrived there a week ago in order to evaluate the production capacity to qualify the field and increase its production and train its workers.”
Concerning the Syrian regime’s position on the project, the source said that the chief of national security, Ali Mamlouk, had attempted to convince the Arab tribes to oppose to the project, but that he had not been able to do so.
Turkey, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to be happy about the US’ project in Syria, but the country is currently in a turbulent situation that cannot take any actions against the project due to other regional issues, he concluded.
