Threats to stop all Israeli planes from landing on American soil have been communicated to Jerusalem after the US accused the Jewish state of failing to live up to its aviation agreements, according to local broadcaster Channel 12.

The White House is reportedly accusing Jerusalem of creating a diplomatic crisis by not honoring an equal treatment agreement between Israeli and American airlines after Ben Gurion Airport shuttered all air traffic to prevent the spread of COVID-19 variants in the country.

The Foreign Ministry, however, denied that they were aware of any threats being made by the US, according to The Jerusalem Post.

The Post also reported that the US Department of Transportation filed an official complaint last week to its Israeli counterpart after the Jewish state’s national carrier, El Al, was granted an exception to continue flying into Israel despite the border closure.

El Al has continued to operate emergency flights after winning a bid with Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority, while competitor Israir has been operating rescue flights for stranded Israelis abroad to and from Frankfurt.

All flight carriers, with the exception of EL AL, have been barred from entering the US, according to Channel 12.
