WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS

By Fred Trokie

Do you ever feel as though you were failing in your walk with Jesus Christ and your relationship with God the Father. I have. There have been times when I have said “what’s the use?” Every time I would get up, something else would knock me back down. Do you ever feel that way?

If you are viewing your salvation from the perspective of the flesh, you will find yourself being frustrated and always discourage. The flesh is always in opposition to God’s Spirit.

Galatians 5:17 says:
For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

The flesh is pervasive in its pursuit to derail you from your walk with God.

Romans 7:18 says:
For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.

But when you view your salvation from a spiritual point of view, you will receive a completely different perspective.

Romans 5:8 says:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

What an amazing statement. Image if you will someone who has:
Lied to you, abused you, stole from you, beaten you, belittled you, spit on you, cursed you, and then tried to put you to death. Would you love that person? Would you die for that person? That’s exactly what we have done to God, and yet scripture tells us that God has not only loved us, but demonstrates His love. How does He demonstrate it?

John 3:16 says:
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten (unique) Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Christ died for you in your sinful unsaved condition.

Romans 5:6 says:
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

Did you know that you were helpless, and unable to save yourself? At the right time Christ died. He died for you at the right moment, at the right instant.

THE RESULTS OF CHRIST DYING FOR US:

Romans 5:9-11 says:
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

God reconciled us while we were still in our sinful condition, before we were saved. As a matter of fact, God has given us many spiritual benefits, and He gave them to us before the foundation of the world, before any of us were even created.

Ephesians 1:3-5 says:
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love
5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will.

Ephesians 1:7-8 says:
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight .

And Ephesians 1:11-12 says:
11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will,
12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory.

God will glorify us in Christ. This is what God is doing for us today. While we were still enemies, while we were still sinners, God put His plan into action, by saving us, by conforming us, and finely by glorifying us in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:28-29 says:
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

God gives us a precious promise in regards to our future glorification in Christ.

Philippians 1:6 says:
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
