Wondrous Love

John 17:20
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word.”

In the very opening of this verse one feels inexpressibly delighted to hear of the wondrous love that our Savior has toward us, His people. He promises here that He will intercede for every one of us before His Father’s throne and not only us, but also those who will in the future believe; those who are yet uncalled, unconverted, and unregenerated. When we consider this, His exceeding grace and affection, it is more than we can comprehend.
I marvel at the humility of Jesus Christ and that our names are ever on His lips. Day by day, in that celestial land where there is no night, Jesus is before His Father’s throne perpetually bearing on His chest our names, which are like deeply cut jewels on our High Priest’s breastplate. We cannot help but respond to His love with a deep veneration for the grace that makes Him declare, “I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore with loving kindness I have drawn thee.”
