Yours For The Asking

Proverbs 4:7
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

For most of us, the end of spring is filled with graduations and celebrations of achievement. The student who has given himself or herself to learning has acquired knowledge. Knowledge, however, is not enough, nor is it even the most important thing. A man can be a genius, yet be void of wisdom. Without wisdom, he will eventually fail.
Here in this proverb we see the central theme of wisdom. In the original Hebrew, the word wisdom means skill of mind. Wisdom is the skill of using knowledge. It is taking what is known and applying it to the task at hand. Knowing the answers to a test may guarantee a good grade in school, but having wisdom guarantees a good life.
The book of James says that if you don’t have wisdom, it’s because you haven’t asked for it.
Father, You are the Giver of all that is good and the source of all wisdom. You’ve invited us to ask for Your wisdom in our lives; therefore, right now we come in boldness and confidence, knowing that You will withhold no good thing from those who seek You. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
