Iran’s supreme leader tweets image of Trump-like golf player in shadow of combat drone
“Revenge is inevitable,” Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei proclaimed Thursday on his Twitter account in a threat aimed at former US President Donald Trump.
“Soleimani’s killer and the one who ordered [Gen. Qasem] Soleimani’s murder must face revenge,” he said, adding that vengeance could come at any possible time.
The post was accompanied by an image of a golf player resembling Trump standing in the shadow of what appears to be an Iranian Saegheh flying wing-type combat drone.
The tweet remains accessible at the time of the article’s writing, suggesting it does not violate the policies of the company that banned Trump’s own account over alleged “incitement to violence” during the Capitol unrest on January 6.
Previously, Twitter defended its approach to Khamenei’s posts by saying that those largely amount to political sable-rattling — something permissible under its rules.
In early January 2020, Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
The attack prompted Iran to rain ballistic millies on a base in Iraq hosting US troops; as the Islamic Republic anticipated a response, its air defenses mistakenly downed a passenger jet, killing all 176 people on board.
