Evidence of Spiritual Death

Reflections For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness. But unto us that are saved, it is the power of God. (I Cor. 1:18) You will note that Paul does NOT say that if a person thinks the Cross to be foolish (unnecessary or of no value — Greek) that God is going to punish them — by causing them to perish. No. Rather, he is saying that if a person thinks the Cross is foolish that it is evidence that they are ALREADY in the process of perishing. There is a reason for his conclusion: …

A God Too Small?

Exodus 19:1-15   Israel at Mount Sinai 19 On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain, 3 while Moses went up to God. The Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: 4 You yourselves have seen what …

Pit Principles

By Denise Kohlmeyer Pits happen. Every day. To everyone. Even to God’s cherished children. Our lives’ landscapes are pock-marked with pits, of varying shapes, sizes and depths. I know! I’m a survivor of multiple pits myself. Mine came in the form of emotional abuse from a drug-addicted sibling, from flunking out of college, from being down-sized from a job I loved, from suffering a miscarriage, from being disinherited by my own father, from marital and parenting struggles, and from experiencing bouts of crippling fear and anxiety. Boy can I relate to the beloved Biblical character Joseph, who found himself in …

“Only be thou strong and very courageous.” Joshua 1:7

Our God’s tender love for his servants makes him concerned for the state of their inward feelings. He desires them to be of good courage. Some esteem it a small thing for a believer to be vexed with doubts and fears, but God thinks not so. From this text it is plain that our Master would not have us entangled with fears. He would have us without carefulness, without doubt, without cowardice. Our Master does not think so lightly of our unbelief as we do. When we are desponding we are subject to a grievous malady, not to be trifled …

Genesis Message 2 Light and Darkness of Creation

The Gospel existed before time began. Since the sun would not be created until the forth day it is clear that this light was directly emanating from God. It is a different light than the one he created with the sun and the stars. It is probably the Shekinah Glory of the radiance of Himself giving light for the first three days. The Godhead being active in creation included Jesus the second person of the Trinity. Light coming into the darkness of the massive sin of Lucifer, which caused the chaos and void, was now bringing control and God’s steady …

“But now is Christ risen from the dead.”—1 Corinthians 15:20.

THE whole system of Christianity rests upon the fact that “Christ is risen from the dead;” for, “If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain: ye are yet in your sins.” The divinity of Christ finds its surest proof in His resurrection, since He was “Declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” It would not be unreasonable to doubt His Deity if He had not risen. Moreover, Christ’s sovereignty depends upon His resurrection, “For to this end Christ …

THE WAY OF FAITH

Hebrews 11:23-28 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment. 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. 27 By faith …

Question: “What happened to the Ark of the Covenant?”

Answer: What happened to the Ark of the Covenant is a question that has fascinated theologians, Bible students, and archeologists for centuries. In the eighteenth year of his reign, King Josiah of Judah ordered the caretakers of the Ark of the Covenant to return it to the temple in Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 35:1-6; cf. 2 Kings 23:21-23). That is the last time the ark’s location is mentioned in the Scriptures. Forty years later, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon captured Jerusalem and raided the temple. Less than ten years after that, he returned, took what was left in the temple, and then …

JOSEPH: FORWARD BY FAITH

Genesis 39 Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife 39 Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. 2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made …
