A Worldly Heart

2 Peter 2:9-18 9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment. 10 He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beingswithout so much as trembling. 11 But the angels, who are far greater in power and strength, do not dare to bring from the Lord a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings. 12 These false teachers are like …

“Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?” Luke 24:38

“Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest O Israel, my way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?” The Lord cares for all things, and the meanest creatures share in his universal providence, but his particular providence is over his saints. “The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him.” “Precious shall their blood be in his sight.” “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are the …

God Will Reward

Job 23 23 Then Job answered and said, 2 Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. 3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! 4 I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. 5 I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. 6 Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. 7 There the righteous might dispute with him; …

A Spiritual Union

Reflections For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (II Cor. 5:21) When a person is saved, the reason they are saved is because they, “are joined to the Lord and made one spirit with Him.” (I Cor. 6:17) Our spiritual union with Christ constitutes the new creation. It is WHY we are saved — we are joined to the One who IS life — and thus, we are alive in Him. This spiritual union is described in many ways in the Bible. …

The Heart’s Desires

Psalm 145:17-21 17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. 18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. 19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. 20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. 21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. If you could have …

Alone With God

Mark 1:35-39 35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. 36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. 37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. 38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. 39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils. Where does prayer fit in your daily schedule? …

“Babes in Christ.”—1 Corinthians 3:1.

ARE you mourning, believer, because you are so weak in the divine life: because your faith is so little, your love so feeble? Cheer up, for you have cause for gratitude. Remember that in some things you are equal to the greatest and most full-grown Christian. You are as much bought with blood as he is. You are as much an adopted child of God as any other believer. An infant is as truly a child of its parents as is the full-grown man. You are as completely justified, for your justification is not a thing of degrees: your little faith …

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God. (II Cor. 5:17-18)

Reflections When Paul said, “All things are of God,” he used Greek words that could have been translated, “all things are OUT FROM God.” He is stating that everything having to do with the new creation in Christ is OF God, and is OUT FROM God. This statement is based on the fact that the new creature in Christ is what is born from above when Jesus Christ joins Himself to us – His Spirit becomes one with our human spirit. Our oneness with Him makes us a new creature – not because of anything contributed by ourselves – but …

A Real Enemy

1 Peter 5:8-10 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. Let’s play a little game. Imagine that you’re a soldier during wartime. You’ve made it through basic training, mastered the weapons …
