Isaiah 1:1 1The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah (ASV, 1901). Here the prophet himself begins the long sixty-six-chapter book which he wrote over four successive kings in Israel (740 to 680 B.C.). He lived in Jerusalem and was blessed to be used of God almighty to bring an incredible volume of prophecies to this world while living in the Southern kingdom of Judah. According to chapters 7 and 8, Isaiah was married and had at least two sons, Shear-jashub and …
Amir’s commentary on Hanukkah, as Jews worldwide commemorate the “Festival of Lights”. ***************************************** Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a holiday based on the story and tradition of the Jewish people’s defeat of the Seleucid Empire (Syrian-Greeks) in the Holy Land. In the 2nd century BC (165) a small army of Jews called the “Maccabees” staged a rebellion against the Seleucids during their attempts to Hellenize the Jewish people and Land of Israel. A Jewish tradition at the time was to light Chanukiah (Hanukkah Menorah) in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem daily. As tradition tells, when the …
The Greatest Story Seldom Told – by Jack Kinsella The Bible is under attack, as it has been since it was first compiled, but with a special fervor and intensity unique to this generation. What makes this generation unique is that the principle attackers are believers themselves. It is possible to be a believer in the Bible and not be a Christian, although it doesn’t seem so until you think about it. Personally, I know lots of people who say they believe in God, or believe in the Bible, but who have never surrendered themselves to Christ. Most other religions …
Salvation is a free gift of God that comes through faith in His Son Jesus. The Cost of Discipleship Matthew 10:24-42 24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell …
Hid With Christ in God You are complete in Him…for you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory. (Col. 2:9, 3:3-4) Christ has not merely given us a new life because He died, but He has given us HIMSELF – if we are in Him, HE IS our life. This is how we are complete in Him. Everything is within life, and nothing is outside of it – and the Person of Christ constitutes the very life of the …
With A Little(What Is Faith?) Dr. Mike Murphy A young boy was invited to spend some time with Albert Einstein. Although very intelligent, the young boy was more than a little arrogant. After spending time with Dr. Einstein, they walked out onto his porch to continue their talk. As they sat on the porch, the young boy smiled, thinking of a way he could possibly trip up Dr. Einstein. As they began to sit, the young boy pointed to a tree, and asked, “How do we even know that tree is there?” Calmly Albert Einstein looked over at the young …
David’s Devotion Psalm 3 3 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. 3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. 4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. 5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands …
Marvelous Love by Bill Bright On a cold Christmas Eve in 1952, when Korea was in the throes of civil war, one young woman struggled along a village street, obviously soon to deliver a child. She pleaded with passersby, “Help me! Please. My baby.” No one paid any attention to her. A middle-aged couple walked by. The wife pushed away the young mother and sneered, “Where’s the father? Where’s your American man now?” The couple laughed and went on. The young woman almost doubled up from a contraction as she watched them go. “Please . . .” she begged. She …
Psalm 27:1 (KJV) 27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. May God’s grace, today, be real to you may He help you to know what you need to do. May His love, shine light on your day may His favor lead you to trust Him along the way. May God’s peace, help you to …
The Whole Armor Of God We are to put on the “Whole Armor of God”, And having done so – stand, As the forces of evil seek to destroy God’s work and perfect plan. We gird ourselves with the “Truth”- Christ Jesus – Lord of all; And as our minds are stayed on Him, We’re safe whatever befall. We put on the “Breastplate of Righteousness” As we face the daily fight, Shunning all the works of iniquity, Standing for what is right. Our feet are shod with the “Gospel of Peace” As we walk on the battle ground, Leaving footprints …
Take Courage! Matthew 14:27 “But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Take heart; it is I, do not be afraid.’” _____________________________________________________________ This “take heart” shout of Jesus to His frightened followers was a strong order coming from High Command. The words “take heart” in the original Greek come from the military word “to muster courage” or “to gather up courage.” What is being said here would have been spoken by a first century military commander to those under his authority. Notice what Jesus is not ordering them to do – He is not ordering them to think a happy thought or …
God’s Plan of Salvation 1 John 5:11-12 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. The one who has the Son has this eternal life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have this eternal life. This passage tells us that God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son, Jesus Christ. In other words, the way to possess eternal life is to possess God’s Son. The question is, how can a person have the Son of God? Man’s Problem SEPARATION …
