Many commentaries try to determine what Jesus wrote on the ground as if after two thousand years something would still be left in the dust to decipher. However, in the Greek text, the emphasis is not on what he wrote but on his finger. The importance of the Veil is that it was a barrier of access to God. It marked a point of demarcation in two ways. Moses wrote Psalm 90 at the end of the forty years of Wilderness Wanderings. It was when the Exodus Generation had passed away as judgment for their sin at Kadesh Barnea.
