What is Christianity?

Of all of the numerous passages that could be presented as a short definition of Christianity, perhaps the best one is found in Colossians: Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Col 1:27) Christianity is CHRIST IN US, or if you prefer, Paul often speaks of US being IN CHRIST. These are the same Truth. There is certainly much that could be added as to how Christ comes to dwell in the believer, and of the Christian walk that emerges from His presence in us. But in the end, our personal Christianity is founded upon whether Christ dwells in us. …

HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:21-23 KJV). The second verse of the classic Christmas carol highlights today’s Scripture. “Christ, by highest heaven adored; Christ, the everlasting Lord; Late in time behold him come, Offspring …

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (Civil War background)

In all of the darkness that surrounds us, it’s so good to remember that God knows our pain and struggles, and He comforts us as no one else can. Nothing Can Move Me

Simcha Natan “Nothing can move me,  Nothing can move me,  Your joy came in the morning..  Your promise will keep me,  Your word it will lead me,  From death to life..” Have you ever fallen in a fast flowing river? I have. When I was a kid I used to go do water sports in the river which ran through the middle of the city. One time my wind sail caught a current of wind and took me out of the safe area, an inlet, or dock where we did our activities, and took me into the main body of …

Truly Wise Men

Dr. Mike Murphy   Church can teach us many valuable lessons, sometimes it can even teach us those lessons in the most unusual of places. At an early age I learned one of these valuable lessons at church, the importance of thermal underwear!   Anyone who has been a part of a living nativity knows exactly what I mean! Stand in the freezing night wind for a few hours in an outfit that is actually nothing more than an oversized cotton dress, and your mind will soon begin to ponder just how wise these men were! The invention of longjohns …

JESUS, OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST

Though you may sometimes feel misunderstood, take solace in the fact that Jesus identifies with your circumstances   Hebrews 4:14-16 (KJV) 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help …

From the Manger to the Cross

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley Let’s take just a moment to look beyond the controversy over when the Lord came and focus on why He came. I think Isaiah gave us the best explanation the Bible offers. What follows is my adaptation of Isaiah 53. Isaiah 53:1-12 1. Who has believed the message of the prophets? And to whom has the strength of the LORD been revealed? 2. The Son grew up before His Father like a tender shoot, but like a root out of dry ground He was totally unexpected by most. He had no beauty or majesty …

The Cost of Discipleship

Salvation is a free gift of God that comes through faith in His Son Jesus.   Matthew 10:24-42 24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, …

“Beyond the meeting in the air, what is the purpose of the rapture?

The rapture allows us to be active participants in the tribulation from heaven rather than mere observers of the tribulation from earth. This conclusion comes from several passages in Revelation. First, Revelation 3:10. The tribulation comes to test those on the earth. But the church has no part in this, because we have already been tested. Whatever constitutes the tribulation, and whatever your view of Revelation 3:10, we all agree that the church is kept, protected, and guarded during this time, in a special way that unbelievers are not. If we were on earth, this would make us observers of …
