The Godly Life

Psalm 1:1–3   1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.2 But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.   In the first three verses of Psalm 1, the psalmist describes the one who chooses to live a righteous life, the one who consciously resists the subtle inroads of compromise. He envisions a person who …

Governed by the Spirit

Reflections Governed by the Spirit For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Rom 8:14) Paul is not here talking about LEADINGS. He is not saying that if you are a child of God that God is going to continually feed you information and directions. It isn’t that God never speaks to us, or that God doesn’t lead us, but this isn’t what Paul is talking about. The translation should be, “For as many as are GOVERNED by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” To be governed …

The Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself.” Daniel 9:26

The Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself.” Daniel 9:26 Blessed be his name, there was no cause of death in him. Neither original nor actual sin had defiled him, and therefore death had no claim upon him. No man could have taken his life from him justly, for he had done no man wrong, and no man could even have lain him by force unless he had been pleased to yield himself to die. But lo, one sins and another suffers. Justice was offended by us, but found its satisfaction in him. Rivers of tears, mountains of …

His Will for Your Life

Ephesians 5:17 “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” _____________________________________________________________ When a friend asked what I thought God’s will might be for him regarding a certain situation in his life, I recalled a Bible verse that applied to his issue. He immediately clung to that verse and I thought to myself what a profound act of faith he was displaying. He was in a situation and rather than panic, he turned to seek God’s guidance and direction for an answer. I was both delighted and comforted with him as together we read the …

Tearing Of The Temple Curtain: Why Was This Significant?

by JACK WELLMAN · When Jesus died on the cross, the temple curtain (also known as the temple veil) was torn.  Why did this happen?  What was the significance of the veil being torn and why was it torn from the top down? The Temple Curtain’s Purpose The veil was a long, woven curtain that was purple, scarlet and blue.  This curtain or veil was for the purpose of separating the Most Holy Place which held the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat.  Sitting on top of the Ark was a gold lid.  This was the place for the propitiation …

Christ Seated in the Heavenlies

Reflections From the Psalms Christ Seated in the Heavenlies O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. (Ps. 8:1) God has indeed, “set His glory above the heavens.” In the NT, we are told, “…Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all …

Revelation vs. Information

Reflections Revelation vs. Information When we are in great difficulty and suffering, it is natural for us to appeal to God for information – what we ought to do, or not do, in order to get out of the suffering. We would at least like to know the reason for our suffering. But almost all of the time when we make this appeal to God He is silent about these matters. The purpose of God is not to give us information – not even information ABOUT Christ. Rather, God wants to give us a revelation OF Christ. Even more, according …

ALL OF ISRAEL WILL BE SAVED

Romans 10-11 10 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. ~~~~~~~ Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the …

“Do as thou hast said.” 2 Samuel 7:25

“Do as thou hast said.” 2 Samuel 7:25 God’s promises were never meant to be thrown aside as waste paper; he intended that they should be used. God’s gold is not miser’s money, but is minted to be traded with. Nothing pleases our Lord better than to see his promises put in circulation; he loves to see his children bring them up to him, and say, “Lord, do as thou hast said.” We glorify God when we plead his promises. Do you think that God will be any the poorer for giving you the riches he has promised? Do you …

Unbelief Provokes God

The apostle begins this section of Scripture with a direct quote from Psalm 95 regarding the hardening of hearts. Which is, not listening to God through His Spirit who spoke to the ancient Israelites while they wandered in the wilderness for forty years and after when the new generation entered Canaan. There in the wilderness the Jews suffered a time that was remembered as a tragic defeat. Because they provoked God through unbelief He caused nearly all of them to perish in the wilderness (desert). The seriousness of provoking God and especially through unbelief cannot be over emphasized.

Brought to Our Knees

by Charles R. Swindoll     Scriptures: Psalm 3 O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come Be Thou our guide while life shall last, And our eternal home! —Isaac Watts   Time, like an ever-rolling stream, takes all its sons away. As never before in this generation, we realize that we are dependent upon God for protection and strength. Though the mountains quake, though bridges fall, though tunnels are destroyed, though ships sink, though lives will be lost, though war threatens to invade, though there may even be terrorists and enemies in our midst, …

Meeting With God

A close relationship with God requires time with Him, not simply knowledge about Him Meeting With God Jeremiah 24:7 7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart. Many of us have been blessed with close friends. Imagine if we never spent time with them but instead just thought and talked about how wonderful these special people are. Wouldn’t such behavior be foolish? Yet some Christians do just that. Despite accumulating …
