Middle East on edge as US pounds Iran, Tehran strikes Gulf bases

July 9, 2026 The Middle East moved closer to a wider regional war overnight as the United States launched a second straight wave of strikes on Iran, hitting more than 90 military targets, while the Iran regime retaliated with missile and drone attacks against US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.  According to US Central Command, American forces targeted air defenses, missile and drone sites, naval assets, and military infrastructure along Iran’s coastline.
